Dave Patterson’s debut novel, Soon the Light Will Be Perfect, is forthcoming from Hanover Square Press, an imprint of Harper Collins, in the spring of 2019.
Patterson earned a BA in English from St. Michael’s College, an MA in English from Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English, and an MFA in Writing from the Stonecoast MFA Program. While at Bread Loaf, Patterson won the school’s short story contest for a story entitled, “A Small Offering.” His work has appeared in Slice Magazine, The Onion River Review, Hot Metal Bridge, The Drunken Odyssey, Storyacious, Clare Literary Journal, The Apple Valley Review, and Blinders Literary Journal among other literary magazines.
He has completed a collection of short fiction entitled, How to Know If You’re Having a Heart Attack. Patterson is represented by Claire Anderson-Wheeler of Regal Hoffmann & Associates.
Patterson is also freelance beer writer and critic. His Beer Muse column appears weekly in The Portland Press Herald. In 2014 he founded the Maine Madness Beer Tournament. His passion for craft beer springs out of his belief in supporting local economies with the brunt of one’s spending and, most importantly, from a deep love of drinking beer. Good beer.
In addition to writing, Dave is also a musician and songwriter. He spent ten years playing in the Portland based band, This Way. During his tenure in the band, This Way won a Portland Phoenix Award for Best Americana Band (2011), recorded three full-length studio albums, and completed multiple tours. His current music projects are The High Spirits and Peddle Steal.
