Dave Patterson earned a BA in English from St. Michael’s College, an MA in English from Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English, and an MFA in Writing from the Stonecoast MFA Program. While at Bread Loaf, Dave won first place in the school’s short story contest for a story entitled, “A Small Offering.” His work has appeared in Slice Magazine, The Onion River Review, Hot Metal Bridge, The Drunken Odyssey, Storyacious, Clare Literary Journal, The Apple Valley Review, and Blinders Literary Journal among other literary magazines..
He has completed a collection of short fiction entitled, How to Know If You’re Having a Heart Attack. The collection is being represented by Claire Anderson-Wheeler of Regal Hoffmann & Associates.
Dave writes a weekly beer column for Maine Today Magazine called the Beer Muse. His passion for craft beer springs out of his belief in supporting local economies with the brunt of one’s spending and also from a deep love of drinking beer. Good beer. He’s been a homebrewer brewer since 2002, which has given him a glimpse into the beer making process, though he admittedly is much better at writing about beer than he is at making it. He understands the importance of craft beer in helping people shift to a more locally-minded economic model.
In addition to writing, Dave is also a musician and songwriter. He spent ten years playing in the Portland based band, This Way. During his tenure in the band they won a Portland Phoenix Award for Best Americana Band (2011), recorded three full-length studio albums working respectively with Jonathan Wyman and Jon Nolan, and completed two east coast tours. His current music projects are The High Spirits and Peddle Steal.
